There are all manner of birds and animals, insects and sea life that are associated with the low country on the Cape May Peninsula, from majestic Bald Eagles and Blue Herons, to quirky Cormorants and scrappy Gulls. But if you spent any time on the water, back in the protected marshes, there is a white flash of feathers that you can’t miss and that never fails to delight. This is the Snowy Egret.
With long legs, a slender body, and an impressive wing span, these predators spend their time at the water’s edge, wading through the marsh in search of something to eat. They dine on fish and frogs, insects and snakes, and even shrimp and other crustaceans. They are quiet and reserved, but also deadly hunters.
The Egret is quiet and reserved, but also iconic, with its elegant neck and graceful air. In a sea of greens, browns, and blues, that flash of white is instantly recognizable. Any marina you go to, and throughout the surrounding countryside, the Egret is the symbol of the marsh, with its many tributaries and channels.
This is what we chose to represent Haven Marina Resorts, as our spirit animal of sorts. An elegant, sophisticated bird that haunts the backwaters with grace and style. To remind us that strength and beauty need not be ostentatious and egocentric, it can be quietly powerful.
